For the month of June, HLE Cares once again helped support the work of Prayas by donating funds to help children buy school uniforms and provide them with free meals.
Uniforms for the children at Prayas
As part of the donation, 20 sets of school uniforms were provided to children under the care of Prayas, including:
- Shirts
- Pants
- Sweaters
- Socks
- Shoes
These children pictured are currently attending Teresa Academy, a school run by Maiti Nepal, a local non-government organisation that works with victims of sex trafficking.
The 'Food For Education' program
HLE Cares also donated 10,000 Nepali rupee to Prayas’ ‘Food For Education’ program, an initiative started by Elisha Shrestha and Anirudh Chettri.
Half of the money will go towards providing a daily meal for the children before their classes. The other half will provide them with a healthy habit kit. This kit contains a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap and other hygiene products to ensure that they are living a healthy lifestyle.
One of the major reasons for high school drop-out rates in Nepal is largely due to the fact that children cannot afford a meal. This is a major problem in remote areas and children from poor families. Many children are also forced to work for their families instead of attending school so that they can earn an income.
A Thank You card from Prayas
The children of Prayas also sent us a hand drawn “Thank You” card :)
